Please do not confuse new Long Range Composite Stocks with the cheap, flimsy polypropylene stocks on off-the-shelf factory composites like the 700 SPS. These are constructed from a proprietary, custom blended, high-fiber composite to create the stiffest, most durable unit we could make with acceptable weight, and our famous aluminum Accublock® chassis is molded right into the stock from the start.

The new Long Range Composite M50™ Stock was the result of two additional years of research and development and was designed to accomplish several goals. First, we wanted to combine the best modern stock designs in the world into one “ultimate” model that would not only have the most inherent accuracy available, but also have the high comb needed to clear big scopes while still able to remove the bolt from the receiver.

We also required the LRC™ to be durable, comfortable to shoot, easy to control and flexible enough to accommodate a wide range of barrels from hunting-weight sporters through the heaviest varminters. We accomplish this barrel interchangeability though the use of our patented forend inserts. In practice, some shooters (like me) simply remove the insert for maximum free-float and barrel cooling. (It's nice to have a choice, right?) If I'm hunting in damp or dusty regions, in goes the insert and the dirt stays out.

Install The CombA close inspection will reveal the grip is very similar to the SAKO series, palm swell and all, except done in an ambidextrous manner. I've used this grip hunting all over the world so I'll personally vouch for it. The M50 uses the identical Stocky’s KickSoft™ Recoil Pad as the LRC™.

We also widened the forend very slightly ahead of the Swoop™ and added two snap-in / bolt-on combs. The  (matching color) High M50 cheekrest was put at the same height as the LRC™ and the X-High raises it another 5/8" (0.63"). I think you'll find the High cheek is perfect for scopes in low or medium rings and the X-High version is perfect for big, bad scopes in medium or high rings.

The combs (cheekpieces) feature a (male) lip at the front that wedges into the (female) recess on the main stock body, then the rear of the comb pivots down and snaps into place in the stock at the rear. A 3/8" / 10-32 Black-Oxide Alloy Steel Socket Head Screw (McMaster.com part # 92220A172)  threads into a molded-in nut under the rear of the comb in the stock body to hold it securely in place. To remove, take out the screw using the provided 3/32" allen and pull up at the rear of the comb.

When using the High Comb, it never needs to be removed. If you like it the way it comes out of the box, do nothing - we have them finished right on the stock for a perfect match.

When using the X-High Comb, The only time it has to be removed is if you have a long action. Long action rifles will usually require the X-High cheek to be removed for the cartridge bolt to be removed (i.e. bore-cleaning.) Short action rifles do not require this step for bolt removal, but removing the X-cheek will make it a lot easier to run a rod down the bore.

Stocky's take: As mentioned, I set out here to design and produce what I consider to be the ultimate $200 stock that I intend to give a lot of use, that's why we offer it in both Long Range Series - this one and an M50 Carbon Fiber layup version here on the site.

The grip took the longest. Because I'm so particular about trigger control admittedly I drove everyone crazy for quite a while because I kept demanding new 3D printed prototypes (and subsequent tweaks) until it was just right. The butt is wide and tall just like its sister LRC™ in order to spread the recoil energy out over a wider area, this little "trick" can actually cut the P.S.I.'s on your shoulder in half! Combined with the characteristics of the customized composite material we use I'm sure you'll agree our Long Range Composites™ are the softest-recoiling stocks in their class. The cheekrest is nothing short of ingenious. You can swap them out in literally seconds, yet they are solidly locked in place for the long-haul in the harshest of conditions.

FINISHES:

A lot of time and effort went into developing the best topcoats for our stocks and we have finally developed the perfect finish. It's as tough or tougher than anything in the business. I'd bet on tougher, especially when it comes to webs, as they are chemically formulated to permanently bond with the composite material.

We are offering these stocks in a vairety of textured finish spider web colors and several hydro-dip finishes.

Premium Hydrographics:

  • Kryptek Banshee
  • Kryptek Highlander
  • Kryptek Typhoon

Premium Textures

  • Olive with Black Web
  • Tan with Black Web
  • Black with Gray Web
Plus a very cool Flat Smooth Black.

Please note: The black listed on this page is a finished smooth black.

For these stocks we have developed a new KickSoft™ recoil pad. Our new pad is of a medium firmness, when shooting magnums it won’t collapse or make a firm shoulder hold shaky like a softer pad, nor is it as hard as some others that do little to absorb recoil. We think you’ll like it a lot, but if you want a different pad it'll unscrew and your gunsmith can fit the alternate of your choice.

The grip cap is made from the same material as the stock and forend, a special type of 40% glass-filled composite. I can see many of our more custom-minded customers having an identical cap machined out of a small piece of aluminum stock and engraved to taste.

These stocks don’t require bedding, however those who insist on using an epoxy bedding system in their rifles should only concern themselves with skim-bedding the aluminum AccuBlock® itself. Do not remove any of the composite material in the stock itself nor modify the block in any way.
