What's included in this package:

The Bell and Carlson M40 Stock for short action Remington 700s. This stock accomodates a heavy varmint barrel.

The time tested military style riflestock was introduced in the 1970s, replacing the wood stocks on standard issue U.S. Military sniper rifles. Even though the U.S. military has moved into other configurations, this M40 silhouette's popularity continues to increase to this day (in fact we are seeing a resurgence) and is sure to accelerate even faster with the introduction of this aluminum bedded Bell & Carlson variant. Other than the addition of Bell & Carlson's cutting edge aluminum chassis, it is hard to improve upon "ideal."

Remington 700 Specs

What sets this stocks apart from the B&C 2958 is the raised monte carlo cheekrest, set ideally for large, powerful scopes; and the flat/round forend for horizontal stability from a rest. They overcame any potential bolt removal issue brought on with the monte carlo by inletting a small slot at the top/front of it. It has a very comfortable grip and a fairly wide forend with dual front sling studs to allow for both bipod and sling attachment. Additionally, this unit is now available in long action, wheras the 2958 is not.

Bell & Carlson 1000The stock has no checkering and like all in the Medalist line, it has the integral aluminum bedding system that is computer designed and CNC machined out of aircraft grade 6061-T6 aluminum. The aluminum block extends through the forearm to add strength and stiffness and incorporates the attachment of the front sling swivel for additional security. An aluminum tail piece also extends from the bedding block through the grip area to add rigidity and to strengthen the stock. The stock is designed to be free-floated and it comes with a standard length of pull of 13 3/4 with a Pachmayr Decellerator pad and is available in all the finishes that we currently offer, including our web and camouflage patterns.

Perfect replacement setup!Review by Jeff Y.

I ordered this package for an upgrade to my Remington 700 Varmit ADL with the blind magazine. The stock is a tremendous upgrade over the OEM injection molded stock, and the M5 bottom metal fit perfectly right out of the box. The fit of the bottom metal was tight and spot on, and the machining was nice with no rough edges or shotty work. The barrel channel of the stock was wide enough for the heavy varmit barrel to have generous room on each side and is free floated all the way to the action.

Also, for those who may be curious, the trigger guard on this bottom metal is big enough to fit straight bow trigger shoes. I was worried about this, but it fit my Timney straight trigger with plenty of room to spare. Also, just received some Magpul AICS mags, and they fit nicely and drop freely from this bottom metal.

ONE THING TO MENTION-- the OEM action screws specifically for my model 700 were too long, and when tightened to torque specs protruded from the rear of the action restricting bolt movement and also interfered with the lug on the bolt head. BUT, Stocky's sends these bottom metals out with a set of their aluminum pillars and screws, which is a great feature for someone looking to upgrade a wooden stock. I bring that up because fortunately since the B&C stock already has an aluminum bedding block the pillars aren't needed and, low and behold, the provided screws fit nicely and are perfect length to serve as a replacement set.

I would absolutely recommend this to anyone trying to get a little extra out of their factory setup. I'm very pleased with what I received and for a great price! (Posted on 4/21/2019)
