Upgraded wood is so hard to come by these days please don't miss out.

Cooper Firearms of Montana builds some of the finest semi-custom and custom rifles in the USA with their own hand-fitted stocks. We are now making certain models available in limited production runs of AA+ grade Claro and French Walnut inlet for Remington 700® Sporters (BDL, SPS, etc.). Claro walnut is known for its darker color and crotchy figure. French walnut has a lighter base tone with highly contrasting, straight, sometimes feathery grain. French is the rarer of the two. Either will make even the plainest Remington 700® BDL barreled action literally look like you paid thousands of dollars for it.

Both uncheckered and checkered versions are available. The optional 4 panel, 3 point checkering is cut by hand at 22 lines per inch before a final, hand rubbed, Tru-Oil finish is applied.

FREE BEDDING KIT; THESE STOCKS ARE NOT DROP-INS AND ARE DESIGNED TO BE EPOXY BEDDED IN THE RECOIL LUG AREA. DO NOT FIRE BEFORE BEDDING.

AA+ French & Claro Walnut Stocks Rem 700Cooper Firearms of Montana builds some of the finest semi-custom and custom rifles in the USA, all with their own hand-fitted stocks. We are now making certain models available in limited production runs in  AA+ grade Claro and French Walnut. Please note that Cooper rifles are not the same inlet as a Rem 700, it's only since the last SHOT Show that we've worked to bring these factory 700 inlets to the aftermarket.

Claro walnut is known for its darker color and crotch-like figure. French walnut has a lighter base tone with highly contrasting, straighter grain. Either make even the plainest Remington 700® barreled action literally look like you paid thousands of dollars for it.

All Cooper stocks feature precision inletting for factory Remington® hinged floorplate bottom metal and sporter barrel contour, 1” Pachmayr Old English Decelerator butt pad, and a 13-3/4” length of pull. A vertical pistol style grip and deep reliefs behind the grip provide excellent comfort.

Both uncheckered and checkered versions are available. The optional 4 panel, 3 point checkering is cut by hand at 22 lines per inch before a final, hand rubbed, Tru-Oil finish is applied.

Precision inletting allows for factory rifles to drop right in, although very minor fitting may be required. Bedding is recommended. Custom gunsmiths will love this precision inletting - it is cut for standard 700 hinged floorplate bottom metal with a sporter barrel contour. The inlet itself is a very tight stock-to-metal fit as you'd expect in a custom Cooper rifle. Since the fit is so precise on my test rifle(s), my guess is some folks will be doing a bit of fitting for aftermarket triggers, etc..

Standard factory R700 sporters (.308 / .30-06, etc.) will drop in and barrels will float out nicely of the box. Magnum sporters (.300 SAUM, .300 Win, etc) may require a bit of sanding for the barrel to float, they too drop right in but I like a bit more clearance.

Stocky's recommends bedding all of our Cooper stocks. These wood models are left oil-free in the bedding areas, so if you don't want to bed please be sure to rub some Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil ($7.96 / bottle at Walmart) on before bolting everything up for good, and reapply it to the entire stock from time to time to make it look new again.

Specifications:

  • Just over 2 lbs (wood always varies slightly)
  • Length of Pull: 13.75"
  • Length Overall.: 30.5"

Stocky's Take: I can only imagine what one of these will do to your resale values. If you build rifles for a living, I strongly suggest you get at least one of each while the getting is good. Upgraded wood is so hard to come by these days you won't want to miss out.

The inletting is what I'd expect from a true custom build - tight. This is the way to get that seamless wood-to-metal hand-built rifle look - there's no slop.

THESE STOCKS ARE NOT DROP-INS AND ARE DESIGNED BE EPOXY BEDDED IN THE RECOIL LUG AREA. DO NOT FIRE BEFORE BEDDING. When bedding push the reciever as far forward as you can so the screw holes and ejection port lines up and tighten until the epoxy sets.

If you are a true classic aficionado, you're going to like them a whole lot.
