Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist Style 4 M40 Long Range Remington 700™ BDL, Savage® 10/12-110/112, Tikka T3, Howa® Short Action BBL

The time tested military style riflestock was introduced in the 1970s, replacing the wood stocks on standard issue U.S. Military sniper rifles. Even though the U.S. military has moved into other configurations, this M40 silhouette's popularity continues to increase to this day (in fact we are seeing a resurgence) and is sure to accelerate even faster with the introduction of this aluminum bedded Bell & Carlson variant. Other than the addition of Bell & Carlson's cutting edge aluminum chassis, it is hard to improve upon "ideal."

What sets this stocks apart from the B&C 2958 is the raised monte carlo cheekrest, set ideally for large, powerful scopes; and the flat/round forendfor horizontal stability from a rest. They overcame any potential bolt removal issue brought on with the monte carlo by inletting a small slot at the top/front of it. It has a very comfortable grip and a fairly wide forend with dual front sling studs to allow for both bipod and sling attachment. Additionally, this unit is now available in long action, wheras the 2958 is not.

Bell & Carlson 1000The stock has no checkering and like all in the Medalist line, it has the integral aluminum bedding system that is computer designed and CNC machined out of aircraft grade 6061-T6 aluminum. The aluminum block extends through the forearm to add strength and stiffness and incorporates the attachment of the front sling swivel for additional security. An aluminum tail piece also extends from the bedding block through the grip area to add rigidity and to strengthen the stock. The stock is designed to be free-floated and it comes with a standard length of pull of 13 3/4 with a Pachmayr Decellerator pad and is available in all the finishes that we currently offer, including our web and camouflage patterns.

Unlike most I will start with cons or the con as the case may be. You will need to use a dremel with a fiber wheel to remove some over flow of stock resin off the aluminium bed at the recoil lug, at the rear of the receiver and the front and rear where the trigger guard screws down. There was a pin at the back of the trigger guard which I cut off because the stock did not have a hole for it. Seemed stupid in the first place.
I have a Tikka T3 and the original stock uses an aluminum plate inserted into the stock. The B&C stock has the recoil pad as a machined shape of the bed, one piece construction. The recoil pad is a pressed fit into the receiver, as you tighten the front screw you press the pad into the receiver. Everything was a perfect fit. The barrel is completely free floating and the receiver mating surfaces only contact the aluminum bed.
I was planning glass bedding but the fit is perfect and the glass would change the fit of the recoil pad by raising the receiver. It looks so much better than the cheap injection modeled plastic stock and a much better shape. It has a small groove on the top so you can remove the bolt without hitting the stock. I suppose you could spend twice as much and not have to do a cleanup but this is an awesome stock. (Posted on 7/16/2018)
Savage 308 Custom BuildReview by Redneckengineer
Rating
Very similar experience to OOB above. This build started with an action from a new Stealth rifle back from Savage for warranty. I really wanted to love the Stealth but I could never get comfortable with it especially off sand bags.

My set up has the Stealth 308 action, the CDI hardware, a S7 contour Shilen barrel and a Thunderbeast suppressor. I skim bedded the action and paid special attention to make sure the action screws did not bottom out. The Savage action seems to not have a lot of material in the front action screw to allow you to get 3 full turns in and interfering with the action.

I've completed break and and my first ladder testing. Early results are quite promising. Factory MatchKings are shooting 0.4" and a number of the Berger Hybrid Hunter loads are stable and well under 0.5" MOA with no seating depth adjustment so far. The stock is very comfortable and very very easy to get it settled and on target. This is very different from the Stealth and more like some of my thumbhole stocks.

My plan is to use this for long range target shooting and for deer hunting. I think that multiple decades of "Jar Heads" have refined this classic to be perfect for both my needs. The stock just settles into the bags so well and is also easy to position in a hunting blind.

I probably didn't have to skim bed it but I had the time and wanted to make this gun the best it can be. The aluminum chassis is a great improvement to having to do a pillar bed job. For $271 bucks this is a no brainer. BTW I can also write some pretty scalding reviews also:) (Posted on 7/6/2018)

Earlier I wrote the following:

Bought the Tactical Medalist Style 41000 for my 700 SPS in 7mm-08. The Original over-molded stock I felt was driving my shots under MOA at 100 yards using most factory offerings. Installation was quick/easy. I do suggest a torque driver whenever working on your firearm. I noticed scuffing from barrel contact with the original plastic stock once removed. I snugged the action to the new stock using 45 ft/lbs on my fat wrench and tried the paper slip under the barrel. It's floating now and the fit is nice though it did add some weight to the gun from it's stock configuration. It's 4 stars because it's just too cold and windy to shoot as of this posting. I'll update the review when I do my re-sight and throw some groups with this B&C stock from Stockys. Fast delivery and no hiccups with this transaction!

Well I had the chance to get out on a warm February Saturday afternoon and put my SPS with the new stock through it's paces. Wow! What a difference! Absolutely incredible! This is a 5 star review! The Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist Style 4 M40 turned my mediocre rifle into a tack driver. Three and five shot groups at 100 yards letting the barrel cool between shots with groups that I could cover with a quarter! A tremendous increase in accuracy with a drop-in stock and no other changes. I used the same Hornady American Whitetail 7mm-08 rounds that I shot before the switch! I hit a home run buying this stock! Thanks to Bell & Carlson and to Stockey's for a great price and quick shipping! I don't do reviews often but for this, I just had to! (Posted on 2/11/2017)

Bell&Carlson Tactical Medalist M40 stock for Remington 700 SPSReview by Mike in Texas

You just cannot go wrong with the B&C Medalist M40 Tactical Stock. The current Remington 700 SPS rifles are being sold with the rubber overcoated Hogue stocks. These are much too flexible a platform for accurate shooting. Replace the Hogue with a Bell&Carlson, and watch your shooting improve. (Posted on 7/31/2015)

I bought this stock for my Savage 10 PC. The fit and finish was great and it mounted up perfect to my barreled action. The inletting for the DBM was exact. I did relieve the area around the tang as Savage rifles like to be free floated in this area. I have always liked B&C stocks and will continue to use them as I get major bang for my buck with them. Substantial improvemnt on Tika T3Review by Sam

I installed this stock on a heavy barreled Tika T3 Varmint rifle and like it enough to consider one for my Rem 700 SFS 223. Both of the rifles had the stock "Barbie Doll" plastic from the factory so the improvements in accuracy and decrease in felt recoil was considerable. (Posted on 6/10/2015)
Excellent for both .308 and .223 SavagesReview by OOB
Rating
The new versions for the 4.40 top and bottom release Savage Model 10's are extremely well made and required no modifications to swap and achieve a much better fit and increase in accuracy. While I will likely skim bed both the 308 and the 223, they are a great improvement for both a 308 10T and a .223 VLP DBM. Fit like a glove, stiff and great free float even with S7 Contour Shilen barrels. The felt recoil in the 308 with 178 & 185s was like night and day over the Accustock! Great price and looks fantastic. (Posted on 4/10/2015)
