Same Day / Next Day Shipping on In-Stock Items
- Custom Orders & Backorders Available at Sale Prices Too!

How Our Process Works | Why Backorder If Necessary | Current Turnaround Times | Cancellations

We are often commended by our customers for the management of our 10,000 stock inventory, as well as the straight-forward way we organize our web site. If it is available for immediate shipment that particular unit is I.D.'d on every product page with our famous In-Stock label after the model and color. If not in stock, it will either state "sold" or will not be listed in the case of models we carry many variations of (if we listed it the list would be several hundred stocks long.) Simply stated, if it does not say In-Stock it is not. But it may be due in soon so it's always good to check with us.

Conversely, we allow backorders and custom orders at the sale prices listed (adjusted for any add-ons or subtractions of course.) Most websites do not allow special orders or even backorders, while our site welcomes them. But unfortunately for us some customers call several weeks into their order wondering why they don't have it yet. These folks usually haven't read this or been in contact with us so we have to explain it to them several weeks into the order. It's really not that complicated but if you've been in retail for 30+ years like Stocky you come to understand some people get excited when they see all the stocks only to pull the trigger first and look for horns later.

The sole purpose of this page is full-disclosure, if we can get everyone to read it it is hard to conceive of any confusion arising. If you'd rather call, we will also be happy to take whatever time is necessary to help you get a full understanding of the very unique gunstock industry. What we want to avoid is someone calling well into their backordered item's production period saying they didn't know what to expect. It's all right here!

We understand why most do not - most sites just want to sell from the web and don't even answer their phone if there's even a number on the site. They come home from their day job and package the previous days sales for shipping in their garage "warehouse" and that's that. Here at Stocky's, as our regulars will attest, we staff the phones during normal business hours to answer technical questions and manage our suppliers, customers inquiries and shipments. Since many of our special orders come from this interaction, it is nearly impossible to do them correctly when you do not have expert staff - knowing exactly what the individual seeks to accomplish, following up with the factory, determining the how and when of production, etc. is impossible without dedicated staff.

Stock Status IllustrationSite inventory updates real-time and your special orders are placed real-time so literally the moment it arrives it's online and available for purchase. In Stock orders are shipped almost instantly, certainly daily. If it is not listed in-stock on the site it's probably not, but feel free to call and pick our brain. Nothing is held back at Stocky's.

We keep the most popular styles and colors on order at our suppliers to keep the average backorder period to a minimum, however as you may be aware demand is unprecedented and most manufacturers are running behind. It is therefore strongly recommended that if you are sure of your selection(s) do not delay your order any longer.

Bottom Line - if you are certain you want it - order it now! If you are waiting for the item to become available on the site before purchasing, you can bet many orders are getting filled while you are waiting.

We have folks that are calling every day to find out "when it's coming back in stock." In the case of the synthetic suppliers like Bell & Carlson and H-S Precision, we get stocks in almost every day however many are being used to fill backorders (sent to customers that have paid orders in our system) and the remaining stock of the most popular models generally sell out on the site in a few hours! In the case of another manufacturer, S&K Gunstocks, we get large laminated shipments much less frequently, generally of only one particular model.

Our web site is our inventory system. Our experience in the industry dictates that each manufacturer is most efficiently managed differently because their production requirements vary. When you place a paid order at Stocky's online or by phone one of 2 things happens:

  1. Item In Stock - A packaging ticket is printed automatically, the item is retrieved, inspected, packaged, weighed and the shipping label is printed almost instantly. UPS picks up at 4pm daily, U.S. Mail at 9am. You get an email with the tracking number.
  2. Item is not in stock (Backorder/Custom Order)- When a paid order is received:
    • If it is already on order at the factory the incoming item order is electronically tagged with your order number and another one is ordered at the factory. It's yours, no one else can have it. The day it arrives it is entered into inventory and #1 above takes place.
    • If it is not on order at the factory as in the case of a special custom order (i.e. 15" L.O.P., MaxxGuard, etc.), depending on the digital-sophistication level of the manufacturer and the quantities required for production, these orders are either consolidated and added to the next run (i.e. S&K Laminated Gunstocks) or forwarded real-time for immediate production scheduling(i.e. H-S Precision).
  • Our freight is delivered at 8am-9am daily, sold items shipped out as above (4pm business-daily).

A good example is a recently very backordered "un-named" item. While we were quoting "no promises, at least 6-8 weeks" officially, we delivered some backorders in as little as 2-3 days! Why? Because it was the truth, we had no additional information we considered accurate and we'd rather 'under promise and over deliver' if possible. We had made preparations but lacked information ... we (had and still) have cases and cases on order and they've been on order for months, we get them trickling in just about every week to fill sold orders first. Yet no matter what we say to some fellows they just keep getting passed by ... waiting to 'get lucky' and call the exact same moment we have an extra one of the "worlds' most popular stock" I guess. If he'd have put one on backorder the first time he called he'd have been bragging about his little bitty groups by now!

Some stocks are simply in that high demand ... If you want it order it now and let us go to work for you! When you hit that confirm button your stock is ordered, tracked and shipped electronically. It doesn't happen any faster or more efficiently than that. (Might have something to do with our low pricing too!)

"Special ordering riflestocks in so many wonderful models and colors is a valuable American privilege that Stocky's has worked very hard to bring to you."

We get calls and emails daily from international folks that wish they could order from us. They realize this riflestock thing is a uniquely American priviledge, but unfortunately they cannot be exported without a ton of red tape. Then consider the myriad of custom units we have available here.

It may interest you to know that there are over 100,000 distinctly different stocks you can create on our web site. Talk about personalizing your rifle! Obviously, we cannot keep them all, 100,000+ combinations, on hand, simultaneously, all the time. So what we try to do is anticipate your needs by considering things like popularity, seasonality, past trends, etc. and keep multiples of items in stock in the options and colors you and your friends are demanding. We also keep hundreds of models on "perpetual" order with the manufacturer, we call it Open Purchase Order, so that if we happen to be out it will be back in stock and shipped to those waiting for them as soon as the manufacturer produces them, in precisely the order they were pre-purchased. Only when those pre-paid orders are filled do the remaining items show up on the site. It's only fair, first come - first served.

Since credit and debit cards expire, get revoked, etc., all we ask is that you be sure of your purchase and be willing to pay for it when you place the order so we can automatically ship it to you the day it arrives. That's correct, we ship them out same day as a rule, UPS delivers to us at 8am, we inspect, (re)package and UPS picks them up that afternoon! We've tried it other ways and it's simply too difficult and time consuming to manage, and if you look at it from a merchant's standpoint cannot commit resources to the hundreds of items we sell 'hoping' all the fellows that want them today are available (or have the funds available, of course) when their selections arrive weeks (or months) later. This is a community, if you are a regular customer you know how well we work already, if you are a new customer be comfortable with the fact that we have been doing this for many years and are very efficient.

It may interest you to know we ship most backorders / special orders the day they arrive here, UPS drops off at 8am and picks up at 4pm! Nobody gets your backordered product out faster! This gives us time to inspect and re-package it securely, so you are assured of quality goods that are delivered right the first time. We've done the drop-ship (factory direct shipment) thing and prefer to avoid it - drop-ships experience an unusually high amount of freight damage and errors as volume manufacturers are looking to ship quantity above quality in many cases. Factories rarely pack individual stocks correctly, no way I'd want my stock drop-shipped if I could avoid it. When shipped here first they come protected in cases of 10-25 stocks, plus we have an opportunity to repack and inspect prior to shipment. Take it from us folks that do this for a living, that's the way you definitely want to go, every other way is a literal crap-shoot and that 6 weeks quickly becomes 16 when the one you purchased from a drop-shipper arrives damaged. (This is detailed on our Shipping Info page.)

Please do not believe what anyone else tells you, including other websites, about factory production periods! Our estimates below are based on current experience and are subject to change without notice. If they (factory) get a big order in from Remington, and this time of year they do, they will put all others on hold to run tat one. We update our web site daily to keep you abreast of any current developments, check back often especially if you already have an order in.

H-S Precision Stocks: Fixed stocks run about 4-12 weeks normally, adjustables double that (12-24), and they ARE worth the wait if necessary. DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT THEIR WEB SITE STATES IT IS OUT OF DATE. We have had many PO's come in two to four weeks and some adjustable orders arrive in 16-24 weeks. In our experience any number that anyone quotes is a guess at best. We have perpetual open orders scheduled to arrive in black, tan web and olive web, but if you want a custom spiderweb color call or email us before ordering and we can sometimes get an incoming stock painted a different color for you to save time. Be sure to add a week or two for custom features like forend rails, high-end colors and length adjustment, these are always one-offs and made from scratch. As mentioned we keep the keep the best sellers on perpetual order at the factory in the textured black, tan and olive spiderweb finishes in an effort to keep your wait shorter than that, but we'd rather be heroes than villains so plan on the worst and we'll do our best to surprise you.

Bell & Carlson Synthetics: Custom orders run about 8-12 weeks currently. Add a week or two for MaxxGuard (Maxxguard is NOT recommended anyway due to some bubbling issues) and custom features like magnum reinforcement and length adjustment. We have darn near the entire product line on order in the textured black and olive, tan and often the other spiderweb finishes in an effort to keep your wait shorter than that, but we'd rather be heroes than villains so plan on the worst and we'll do our best to surprise you.

Remington Laminated Stocks: We are purchasing Remington closeouts by the truckload as they become available so don't backorder anything in the Bargain Barn, once it's gone it's gone. The Long Range Varmints and Sporters and well as the 10/22 stocks we used to buy from S&K are being produced now by KSA/Revolution as they have earned as much business as we can give them. Nothing against Remington, but for now the rule of thumb is new production to KSA, overstocks from Remington.

MANNERS COMPOSITE STOCKS: These are professional-level (advanced amateur) stocks. We are their only approved U.S.A. distributor and are stocking their most popular models, colors and inlets. If it is not in stock best to allow at least 12 weeks for shipping. Manners' customer service policy is literally the best in the industry, if you find any problems at all please contact us or them at (816) 283-3334 and it will be corrected. We will abide on whatever they determine to be necessary under their policies and proceedures. Due to the very limited supply (100 stocks/month is about it for now) as well as the cost range of the items ($500-$1000 stocks), period of time to replace and demand for these products we do not allow returns for refund under our usual policy unless Tom Manners and/or Stocky specifically approve it, normally prior to purchasing. In other words please do not buy two of these to see what color you like best and return the other one, just wanted to hold one and check it out, etc. like other stocks. If you do this there will be a 25% restocking fee to cover the costs related to refinishing of the item(s) as the next guy does not want your fingerprints and handling marks on his new Manners stock. In the event you inadvertantly purchases the wrong stock (i.e. long action vs. short action) exchanges are no problem if you pay the freight, package your return carefully and get it back here immediately, unscathed. Thomas Manners along with a group of some of the top 50bmg benchrest shooters, Skip Talbot, Randy Direks, Kenny Johnson and others, got together and laid out some basic designs for a new 50bmg bench stock. Thomas listened to their input and suggestions, then with the help of some space age manufacturing processes and materials developed a 100% carbon fiber stock. This stock now owns just about all of the 1000 yard 50BMG records.

Revolution Laminated Stocks: We strongly suggest you selecct one we have and not backorder your selection unless we are completely out. We have about 5000 Revolution stocks on hand as of June 1, 2011 and are shipping from our warehouses to the finest gunsmiths and other customers all over the country every day. They are made by some of the best woodworkers in the country, generations of experience making some of the highest quality Pennsylvania House brand furniture. Ask your wife. Now that our fine furniture industry went to China, we have these fine folks working double shifts finishing our finest laminated stocks. The quality is literally the best I have ever seen.

KSA is upgrading their factory and moving the wood shop to the main 80,000 square foot production facility to make the BEST laminated stock made in the U.S.A. today even better. This will put any stock you put on backorder out to at least August or even September as these moves often result in lengthy and unexpected delays. Please make your selection(s) from on hand inventory during this period.

Just be aware all times quoted are an educated guess and not a promise or guarantee. Truth is, no one knows for sure. You see, wood stocks are made in larger runs, not one at a time like fiberglass stocks. They are machined out of the blank and then completely finished by hand. The gloss takes more time than the satin to get perfect so they come in last. There's no way to tell for sure, if it's 8 weeks between runs and you order at week 6, you'd only have to wait 2 weeks. Conversely, if the color you wanted came in defective and we had to scrap them, you could wait longer than normal. Only the guy making that particular stock knows and, as much as we'd like to keep him on the phone all day long, most of us would rather he just did his job and got us the stocks as fast as possible instead of chatting on the tele. Some of their items are made on the CNC, so they take less time to machine, but others, like the 2pc thumbholes for the Encore and shotguns are 8-12 weeks between runs. If the Accu.Block aluminum bed stock you want is out, please add a couple weeks or so since the aluminum adds another time-consuming step in the manufacturing process.

Boyds Laminated Stocks: We are therefore no longer carrying their goods and clearing out remaining inventory on an as/is discounted basis.

Blackhawk/Knoxx: You can call or email us and we can check their schedule as well as their warehouse inventory for availability. Their stated projections are rarely accurate but we will be happy to share them with you.

TAPCO: Things have settled down but they no longer warehouse inventory. Guessing 6 weeks or so going forward.

Christie & Christie: We can usually get anything you want in a couple weeks. Sometimes we can make custom 2-tones up with parts on hand.

Small Parts and Materials: We generally keep good stock on hand but the worst-case is usually a week or two if backordered.

Custom Orders Are Non-Cancelable! There is a lot to be said for personalization and with so many choices available it may interest you to know that we deliver hundreds if not thousands of special orders annually, it's a significant part of who we are and what we execute best. In other words, you get best-sale pricing plus we bug the factories routinely so you don't have to! All we ask is that you be sure of your choice(s), please ask all of your questions up front and please do not ask us to take it back or cancel the order. Many of our most regular customers and custom gunsmiths use Stocky's for all their special order needs!

If there's ever a question or anything resembling a deadline please contact us prior to placing the order, not week(s) into it. We are more than happy to work with you on alternate models and colors that may be available more quickly, etc.! They are darn near impossible to cancel once in the system and if enough guys order and try to cancel a few weeks later because they get bored it's going to ruin it for everyone (click here for details and examples). If it becomes more aggravation than it is worth they'll stop allowing it and it would not be the first time. Special ordering riflestocks in so many wonderful models and colors is a valuable privilege that we have worked very hard to bring to you.
