Here's the best way to convert your boring factory rimfire into a lightweight tack-driver!
Match Grade Accuracy Without Custom Costs -
- Lighter weight than Fluted barrels!
- More Accurate and Dependable than Carbon or Plastic covered barrels!
- Lower cost than other premium target barrels!
A drop-in, fully machined, target-quality barrel that installs without a gunsmith on any Ruger 10/22 receiver in minutes. As with any precision target barrel (as outlined in many how-to manuals as well), some minor fitting with 240 grit emery cloth may be required - anyone can do it and instructions for a precision fit are included (link opens new window). Button rifling, Walther German steel match chamber and target crown provide superb accuracy. You've read the reviews... why settle for those mass-produced commercial barrels when you can have yours hand-made by a custom gunsmith!
Developed by Custom Gunsmith, Dino Longueira, Aluma-Lite barrels are a unique combination of 6061 aircraft grade aluminum and high quality carbon steel. The heart of an Aluma-Lite barrel is the button-rifled steel insert, which is manufactured by Lothar Walther for Majestic Arms, LTD.. The steel insert is permanently bonded to the aluminum outer shell, then precision machined to produce an extremely accurate, lightweight, yet affordable barrel. Test targets shot at 50 yards with target ammo produced groups in the ½ inch range.
All specifications are the same for Ruger 10/22 barrels and 77/22 barrels.
- Weight: 24 oz.;
- Length: 17 inches;
- Rifling: 6 groove, 1 in 16 (1 in 9 for .17);

Stocky's Take:
#1 - Run-of-the-mill .920 Bulls weigh over 50 ounces. Flutes save you just 6 oz. or so. That's about 3 pounds average weight. Why get an ultra-lite stock and proceed to unbalance it when you can have an Aluma-Lite, about 50% less weight and 1/2" groups?
#2 - A rimfire gets maximum velocity in the first 16" of barrel. Don't believe the old wives tales that longer barrels are faster, although it's true to a certain extent with centerfires [especially magnum centerfires]; it most definitely is NOT on rimfires or even shotguns. You need slow-burning powder to use long tubes, rimfire (and shotgun) powder is the fastest available! That goof next to you with his 36" Goose Gun is honking only himself.
Maximum velocity is reached when all the powder in the case is burned - any barrel longer that this acutally slows your bullet down due to the friction between the barrel and bullet. Only reason for a longer barrel is if you are using open sights - increasing the distance between your front and rear sight reduces the error a slight sight misalignment results in. That advantage is irrelevent with a scoped .22.
Promotional GM's and BC's - As good as any, I'd check out our E.R. Shaws before I spent the money they're asking for one of them though.
Carbon sheathed units - Read the blogs for yourself. First off, many users are extremely dissatisfied with accuracy and feeding reliability. Now, think about this ... Carbon is a great insulator, that's why they put plastic around wires! Want to keep your barrel heat focused on the delicate rifling where it can do the most damage? Be my guest. [vs. Aluminum which acts as an excellent heat-sink, pulling the heat away from the core.]
Shilen's and the Volquartsens' - Awesome barrels if you are willing to spend $100 - $200 more! Why spend your money and your time when you can have accuracy that is is as least as good in a barrel that weighs 1/2 as much?
Here's some research I'm plagerizing from the book "Customize the Ruger 10/22" By James E. House & Kathleen A. House. It's been sorted in order of 'Best 3' 50 yard group size and has been condensed to include only the more popular manufacturers. I wouldn't worry too much over +-0.02" (thats hundredths-of-an-inch, folks), that could change with the next group shot. Point is that Majestic Arms Aluma-Lites offer exceptional accuracy in a lightweight design. We report ... you decide.
