Mauser 98 Large Ring Sporter Stocks - Remington 798 (OEM) Interarms Mark X Parker-Hale 1200 Charles Daly - Forest Camo Laminate OEM - Like New!
In case you were not aware of it, S&K Gunstock Industries makes just about all of the stocks Remington puts on their entire line-up of factory rifles. Yes, they make a very nice stock indeed, from the factory CDL and BDL, through the Custom Shop you'll find S&K Gunstocks almost to a gun. Furthermore, they generally do not sell stocks to the public, nor do they have or as far as we are aware do they even want a dealer network to distribute through. Many of these top-quality stocks are left sitting around, many are left over awaiting additional orders that do not arrive, held back as spares in the event of unforeseen events, etc.. These are excellent examples of those - beautiful stocks that were never sent to Big Green and now available to the shooting public for the first time exclusively through Stocky's! These units were made for the Remington 798 Mauser, the metal for which is virtually identical to that of Belgium Mauser fame. Our local Gander Mountain has them on the rack with this very stock. This same receiver has been produced and sold over the years under the brand names of Parker Hale 1200, Interarms Mark X, very early (circa 1950's) Weatherby, Browning BBR's, Mark X Whitworth, Charles Daly, not to mention the Third Reich. I'm certain there's about a dozen others. Although the receivers are very, very similar, the further back in history you go the more variation you can expect. The best way to identify these receivers is to first measure the distance between the rearmost (tang) screw and the front one (the one that screws into the recoil lug.) That distance should be 7 7/8". Here's a link to a Google Image Search with some good photos. Here's what I expect: The Remington 798 of course is a drop-in fit. If you have the SPS with that ugly plastic stock, or if yours wears a nice piece of walnut that you'd rather not drop out of your tree stand, this would be of course as close to drop-in fit as it gets. Should you be fortunate enough to posses an Interarms Mark X or Parker-Hale 1200, it's going to be very, very close but please do be prepared to make some adjustments. Most are reporting a drop-in and a few have mentioned very minor adjustment to get it where they wanted it. This is about what was expected.
All Completely Finished Stocks with swivel studs. Standard stocks are for .243, .30-06, 7mm Magnum, etc.. The Big Bore Magnum stocks are for the big bores like the .375 H&H and .458 Win Mag. Another variation we'd like to point out is that the 798 has a floorplate release in the triggerguard, this stock has the accommodation for that. It's pictured in the photo on the right, let it come as no surprise. Sporterized Mauser 98's (large rings only) - bent (curved) bolt handles only. These stocks have a bolt handle cut, yours may or may not be in the same place so you'd best plan on some adjustment here. Also the position of the safety will vary, you should plan on that also. If your safety is still on the rear of the bolt there may be some modification required in the tang region, custom safeties are of course of necessity to be fitted by the buyer or his gunsmith if they extend into the stock in some manner.
Stocky's take: You get a nice satin finish on a beautiful forest green camo stock complete with laser checkering, a 'real' recoil pad, swivel studs all installed - and it already has the safety and bolt handle slot cut in for the most part, worst case a handle slot is there and some minor widening is in order. In other words, you won't be starting with an unfinished stock with no handle slot, which is the only other alternative for a large ring laminate in this price range. Minor idiosyncrasy is the little slot in the bottom but who cares? Steal at these prices. These are clearance items so we must insist that are sales are final. Remington Lexington - (formerly S&K Gunstocks) a new division of Remington Arms Co., makes the impeccable wood rifle and shotgun stocks that Remington uses on their beautiful factory guns. As Remington's Gunstocks exclusive retailer, we are proud to bring you these tremendous premium quality values on direct from the factory and strongly recommend their use! Anyone can make a cheap stock, it is no mistake that Remington selected and recently purchased S&K for production of all their factory stocks. If you want a premium laminated stock with precision drop-in inletting (and therefore the highest accuracy potential), with a gorgeous finish, quality recoil pad and swivel studs on the centerfire stocks, get one of these!
