It's widely held that laminated stocks create the best combination of wood-like beauty, balance, durability and accuracy of all gunstocks available. However it is not well known why:
When a laminated blank is made, the color-dyed hardwood sheets are compressed in synthetic resin permanently bonded under thousands of pounds of pressure. This process completely impregnates the wood pores with a transparent synthetic material. This means that these stocks have all of the advantages of plastic stocks without the dull look, feel and muzzle-heavy balance of an injection-mold or fiberglass unit. Perhaps most importantly, they are far more silent in the woods ... no game-spooking "tink-tink" sound when accidentally tapped by a limb or neck-slung game call in the field.
The VARMINT THUMBHOLE is available in a wide range of inlettings to accommodate most barreled actions with factory barrel contours. They can be easily glass bedded with or without pillars.

Unfinished VIP - sanding and clearcoat finishing is required, that is why this unit is about 40-50% less than the finished units!
Virtual Inlet Parts (VIP) references stocks that have been precision machined with the intention of eliminating hand fitting. We do not install our house actions into the final stocks; therefore, on certain models it may be necessary to perform very simple inletting tasks. (i.e. Square the corners of the recoil lug area, etc) Exteriors are completely shaped, and in areas of wood to metal fit, we have left proud wood over metal so you can do final fitting to get that perfect wood to metal fit. The broad faces of stock are rough sanded to a 100 grit scratch pattern. Tight radius's have machining marks filed out for added ease of final sanding.
NOTE: ALL SAVAGE SHORT ACTION STOCKS ARE CURRENTLY DESIGNED FOR 4.25" TAKEDOWN SCREW SPACING, NOT THE LATER MODEL 4.40" SPACING. THESE ARE THE FRONT 2 SCREWS, THE MAIN ONES THAT HOLD THE STOCK ON THE RECEIVER, MEASURE CENTER-TO-CENTER. SAVAGE CHANGED THEIR DESIGN 2 YEARS AGO SO IF YOU HAVE A NEW GUN THIS UNIT WILL LIKELY NOT FIT BUT NEVER HURTS TO MEASURE ANYWAY. WE ARE ASKING ALL CUSTOMERS TO MEASURE THEIR ACTIONS PRIOR TO PURCHASING BECAUSE TOO MANY PEOPLE ARE NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO THIS AND WANTING TO RETURN STOCKS THEY HAVE DAMAGED TRYING TO MAKE THEM WORK. WE DO NOT ACCEPT RETURNS ON THESE FOR THIS REASON!!! THAT IS WHY WE ARE THE ONLY ONES SELLING THEM, TOO MANY HEADACHES, SO IF YOU WANT ONE YOU GOTTA' DO THE WORK WE CANNOT DO IT FOR YOU. SIMPLY EMAILING US THE MODEL NUMBER IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AS BOTH ACTIONS HAVE THE SAME MODEL NUMBERS, AND EXTENSIVE DISCUSSIONS WITH SAVAGE ENGINEERS REVEALS THAT THERE ARE NO SPECIFIC SERIAL NUMBERS EITHER. ONLY SOLUTION IS TO MEASURE.
