• We prefer to use Brownells 9/16" 'V' block, grooved, machined aluminum pillars:
• We've tried 'em all and these are the best.
• Our new tooling was specifically designed for them;
• 'V' blocks mechanically offer better accuracy potential than 'U' blocks or flat-tops for round-bottom receivers like 700's and 110's;
• 9/16" pillars are the beefiest on the market, far beefier than factory pillars or the old extruded / rolled units;
• Brownells pillars are a top choice of the best gunsmiths and accuracy nuts worldwide;
• Machined construction, not stamped, rolled or extruded - this give us the most precise and reliable pillar available;
• After a few shots your steel action with nestle itself into the aluminum 'V' with great precision;
• Deeply machined grooves allow the use of several times more bedding compound;
• Deeply machined grooves give more surface area for positive adhesion;
• Deeply machined grooves offer the ability to get both a mechanical lock-in and chemical bond with the stock;
  
  
• We use Brownells AcraGlas® bedding compound:
• AcraGlas® has 50+ years of development for this specific application behind it - no compromises are inherent;
• Acraglas® provides greater "thin strength," shock resistance and stability over wide temperature extremes;
• Least shrinkage in the business - an amazing 1/10th of 1%;
• 1-to-1 mixing ratio gives a stable, molecular lattice structure to that will not crack, craze or sugar-out as will other epoxies over time;
• Slightly longer pot life allows precise adjustments during installation;
• Readily blends with atomized aluminum, steel and stainless steel particles when desired (added charge for metals - not really necessary except for big-bore magnums);
• Can be dyed to approximate the color of the gun stock being worked on.

Here's a photo of a pillar bedded stock with the forward receiver / recoil lug surfaces prepared for glass bedding. We will also lay in the Acraglas if desired. Rear tang areas need no additional bedding. For additional details our Fitting & Bedding page is worth a read.

Note: We promise to make every effort to deliver a stock devoid of smudges, added dings or other handling marks, however some handling, clamping, etc. is necessary so do not be too suprised if you see a mark or two appear in the process. (Sorry.)

Bedding compound takes a week to properly cure, therefore allow 2 to 4 weeks for shipment; probably won't be that long but better to be a hero than a villain.
